The land where Southgate Golf Course now stands was originally owned by the military during World War II. After the war, the land was sold to private developers who used it for farming and ranching. In the 1960s, a group of local businessmen saw an opportunity to turn the land into a golf course and formed the Southgate Golf Corporation to oversee its development.
The course was designed by architect Bob Baldock and opened for play in 1969. It quickly became popular with locals and visitors alike, and in 1973 it hosted the Utah State Amateur Championship.
Over the years, Southgate Golf Course has undergone several renovations and upgrades to keep up with modern golfing standards.
